Program:
Summer Japanese Camps at Kotoba + Culture are fun action packed Japanese immersion programs that give your children maximum exposure to authentic Japanese language and culture while they are having fun. We'll play card games, make origami, play tennis and soccer, and work on individual projects all in Japanese. We'll read Japanese books, and listen to Japanese songs every day.
Every day we have 3 x 45 minutes Work/Project time. You and your children can decide what to work on, and we'd be happy to give you suggestions. You can bring your Japanese or English homework/workbook if you have one. And if you don't have one, no worries. We can recommend Japanese workbooks where children can learn to write hiragana, katakana, or kanji depending on their age, Japanese level, and interest. Please note that this is not a formal Japanese lesson, but rather a self-directed study with teachers' help.
You child can also use this Work/Project time for non-academic projects such as reading a series of books, creating a large artwork, etc.
Japanese ability: No Japanese knowledge is required. However this is a fully Japanese immersion program where teachers and most students speak only Japanese. The idea is to give children maximum exposure to authentic Japanese. Some children with no Japanese knowledge feel pretty comfortable in this environment, and some don't. Many children fall in between where the first several days they feel uncomfortable but gradually they feel more comfortable as they get used to this new environment and pick up more Japanese.
Fees: Children can participate as short as just an hour. $14/hour, $86/day, or $429/week. If you have not registered with us, there will be an additional annual registration fee of $48. For an extra $16/day or $69/week, the extended care is available until 6 PM. Half Day option (9AM to 1PM or 1PM to 5PM): $269/week.
